Fixing Soil That Destroyed Bonsai Mother Tree

I failed to repot this tree for several years past its due date. It's a nursery sourced Fuji Cherry mother tree. Not only did the soil completely break down, but the reduced foliage mass exacerbated the unbalance in the root system. Yeah, there’s a couple of things to bear in mind. Seeds take longer, also it’s a good idea to plant more than you need because only a % of seeds make it to be mature plants in 2-3 years time. My video 3 ways to start bonsai explains a bit more

    I use a root booster from TPS Nutrients to help my plants grow roots faster and stronger, I also found it helps with plants that have sensitive roots to help prevent transplant shock even when I accidentally stabbed my moisture meter in my bougainvillea soil and felt a few roots break (for those who don't know they absolutely hate their roots being touched to the point if you repot them with their original pot will die 90% of the time)

    • @grobonsai
      @grobonsai 2 дні тому

      You’re right - it is a branch. But my long term intention is to cut the trunk back to the graft, and let that be the continued trunk line. It’s a bonsai technique that introduces a change of direction and taper into an otherwise straight trunk. But takes ages!

    What a lovely come back! That has to be rewarding. STYLE SUGGESTION- The partially dead looking section of bark and its crown reminds me of the Bristlecone Pines (one of the oldest living trees we have) they have a very wind beaten/blown look to them. With how long some of those branches are- could you sweep a majority of the branches back in the same direction opposite of how its growing so that it looks like its being blown back in the wind? I know that would be very basic but i think it would add to the bristle cone pine look and* be gentle enough to keep letting the plant bounce back. ❤

    • @grobonsai
      @grobonsai 2 дні тому

      That’s a great source of inspiration, thanks for the suggestion. Definitely has a feel of the bristlecone pines, and also there is scope to show some wind influence. Thanks

    Just remember, like human children they are all perfect. Each tree may not grow up to the idea or vision you had over a 20 year period, but it grew and developed. It is perfect. And if you get annoyed with the end result you can return it to the wild and let the tree correct issues you created.
